Privacy Policy
Our Approach to Privacy
At Nova Tools Pty Ltd (“Nova Tools”, “we”, “us”, “our”) we take a simple view of privacy: collect as little as possible, be clear about what we collect, and never sell anyone’s information. Nova is an AI assistant for macOS, and its core features run on your own computer. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we handle, why we handle it, and the choices you have. We are an Australian company, and we handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (the APPs). Please read this policy together with our Terms of Use and our Cookie Notice.
Information We Handle
The personal information we may handle is limited and falls into a few categories:
- Purchase and licence information. When you buy Nova, we receive your name, email address and the outcome of the payment through our payment processor. We do not see or store full payment card numbers.
- Support correspondence. When you email us, we receive your email address, the contents of your message and any files you choose to attach.
- Optional product diagnostics. If you turn this on, Nova may send us anonymised crash reports and aggregate statistics about feature usage. These do not contain your documents or your conversations.
- Website data. Our website stores the small set of cookies described in our Cookie Notice.
We do not handle the things that matter most to you: your documents, your notes and your conversations with the assistant all stay on your Mac. Nova is designed so that your content is not uploaded to us.
Why We Handle It
We handle personal information only for clear purposes: to process and confirm your one-time licence purchase; to deliver your licence and receipt by email; to answer support questions and help you when something goes wrong; to keep our website and services secure and reliable; to understand in aggregate how Nova is used, so we can improve it; and to satisfy our legal and accounting obligations. We rely on a combination of performing the contract you entered into with us, our legitimate interests in running a secure and improving service, and legal obligations. We do not use personal information for purposes that are incompatible with these.
Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, trade or otherwise disclose personal information for payment. We disclose it only in limited circumstances: to service providers that help us operate — our payment processor to complete a purchase, our web hosting provider, and our email delivery provider; to professional advisers, insurers and authorities where the law requires or permits it; and to a buyer or successor if our business is ever sold or restructured, on the same protective terms. Every provider we share information with is bound by contract to use it only for the purpose we specify and to protect it.
Overseas Data Handling
Some of the service providers we rely on are located outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. When we disclose personal information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps, as required by APP 8 of the Privacy Act, to ensure the recipient handles the information in a way that is at least substantially similar to the APPs. If you would like to know which countries our providers are located in, write to us and we will tell you.
Storage and Security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These steps include encryption of data in transit, access controls that limit data to staff who genuinely need it, and regular reviews of what we hold and why. We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy — for example, purchase records are kept for the period required by Australian tax law — and we delete or de-identify it afterwards. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work hard to keep your information safe.
Access and Correction
You may ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, and you may ask us to correct it if you think it is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. Email us at support@nova-tools.top and we will respond within a reasonable period — normally within 30 days. In the limited circumstances where the Privacy Act allows us to refuse a request, we will explain our decision in writing and tell you how to complain about it.
Complaints (OAIC)
If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles or this policy, please contact us first. We take complaints seriously: we will acknowledge your complaint, investigate it promptly and give you a written response. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (the OAIC), the independent regulator responsible for privacy in Australia. The OAIC is free to use, and you can complain to it whether or not you have contacted us first.
